Joey Pinkney: Where did you get the inspiration to write A Piece of Me?
Mechi Renee: My inspiration came from the struggles, happiness, sadness, and host of other emotions I have been feeling during that timeframe. I wrote in secret because I was ashamed of what I was feeling. I wrote all my hopes, dreams, desires, in a journal.
JP: What sets A Piece of Me apart from other books in the same genre?
MR: My book is well written and is highly visible. The book cover draws your attention and makes you want to pick up the book and read it.
JP: As an author, what are the keys to your success that led to A Piece of Me getting out to the public?
MR: God first. I am an individual determined to succeed. I have a fabulous support system including people who want to see me succeed. I am highly motivated and will work hard for what I want.
JP: As an author, what is your writing process? How long did it take you to start and finish A Piece of Me?
MR: I usually set small goals on what I want to accomplish. For example, I will start writing my new novel in February and give myself three months to write it which will be complete by the end of May. I will break it down even further and write so many pages per day.
JP: What’s next for Mechi Renee?
MR: I am currently in the process of writing a short story novel. The book will be out toward the beginning of the 4th quarter of 2012. I would like to set up my publishing company this year.
